In TypeGrounds, you are the last defense against approaching waves of enemies. All the opponents that will appear on the playing field are tagged with some particular word or phrase. The task is to correctly enter the word in the designated field to make the enemy vanish. After completing the task, a projectile from the arsenal will be shot down at the enemy. The game offers waves with gradually increasing difficulty. Higher levels feature faster and more abundant enemies with longer words. Enemies approaching the player's base will decrease health points. Once there is no more health left, you lose. Completion of waves rewards coins which will boost the player's account in the profile section.

Proper priority setting is the crucial point here. Attack always enemies nearest to your base, regardless of their having longer words. It would be better to destroy several smaller enemies than just one big one with a huge word, since other enemies may approach you before the bigger one gets destroyed. Try to use your peripheral vision in order to detect appearing enemies at the edges of the playing field. Make sure to monitor the 'Super' meter in case you are logged in. With good accuracy, you can unlock your superpower allowing to blast everything currently on the playing field during several seconds in order to recharge. Try to stay calm to increase speed – faster and more accurate typing allows controlling the playing field better.
